Architectural Innovation

An innovative architectural project is taking shape on the University Campus at Bayreuth, Germany, and promises to become a landmark for Africa-related innovation and research. The laying of the foundation stone on 24th March 2023 marked the start of the journey to construct a state-of-the-art center, planned to be completed by the end of 2024.

Sustainability, Aesthetics, and Technology in Perfect Harmony

The focus on high-quality materials was central throughout the project. Sustainability, aesthetics, and technology were the main pillars from the construction phase, balancing functionality, and style without compromising the use of sophisticated materials. The façade of the center is a harmonious combination of functional vertical metal mullions that optimize energy efficiency while giving the building a distinctive look.

Color Palette: A Tribute to African Studies at Bayreuth

The choice of colours for the façade – ranging from vivid yellow tones to warm browns and reds, identified by the NCS codes S 1070-Y10R, S 2060-Y30R, S 4050-Y40R, S 4550-Y80R – was influenced by the chromatic variety, often found in African art and in the logo of the Institute of African Studies. The wavy effect created by applying these colours on the façade adds elegance and modernity to the infrastructure and blends perfectly into the aesthetics of the surrounding buildings.

Technical Excellence in Coating: The RIPOL 52L Series

RIPOL’s 52L Architectural Polyester Smooth Matt Series was selected for the system blade coating process, a powder coating solution designed to meet the requirements and performance standards of the GSB and QUALICOAT specifications for the architectural industry. These products are formulated to withstand tough chemical and mechanical conditions and have successfully passed laboratory tests that confirmed their technical properties. They are characterized by excellent weatherability, good salt spray and humidity resistance, and superior colour and gloss retention.

Commitment to Quality and the Environment

The RIPOL powder coatings used are produced and tested following ISO 9001 quality systems to ensure superior performance and batch consistency. Suitable for application on aluminum, steel, and galvanized steel, the 52L series, like all RIPOL products, is environmentally friendly. RIPOL powder coatings do not contain any solvents, and no Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are released into the atmosphere. Any powder overspray can be recycled into virgin powder using suitable equipment, with minimal wastage. Disposal is easy and safe. All our products are heavy metal-free.
